Before the scar

$500.00

“Before the Scar” is a continuation of my “Burn Scar” series as well as my journey into the world of mixed media. “Before the Scar” evokes an active wildfire, represented by fabric which I knit by hand before singeing and blending it into the acrylic-painted background. The moon, witness to and echo of the fire, pays homage to Sheila Hicks’ “Echantillon: Medallion” (1967). This blending of old techniques and new encourages the viewer to contemplate humanity’s relationship to the flame: It is our salvation and destruction in equal measure.

Knitting, embroidery, acrylic paint, fire. 16x20”, 2025.
